Despite their poverty, the two began a happy life together, filled with laughter every day.

However, exactly one year into their blissful marriage, the wife appeared in Tokuhei’s dream one night. With a sorrowful expression, she revealed a shocking truth: “Actually, I am the trout whose life you saved that day. I can no longer remain in the human world. I must return to where I belong.”
When Tokuhei woke up the next morning, his wife was nowhere to be found. Frantic, he searched everywhere in the pouring rain. When he finally reached the banks of the Shogawa River, he witnessed an unbelievable sight.
